Spain’s National Police have arrested the alleged recipients of a parcel containing 4.285kg of cannabis and hashish destined for Ibiza. The package was intercepted in Linares, Jaén, before officers arranged a controlled delivery to the island to identify and arrest the people expected to collect it.

The operation uncovered what police suspect was a route for transporting illegal drugs from mainland Spain to the Balearic Islands. The people arrested in Ibiza are suspected of an offence against public health, under Spanish law.

The investigation began in Linares, in the province of Jaén, where officers identified a suspicious parcel prepared for dispatch. The package showed signs that it might contain illegal drugs, prompting police to intercept it before the substances could enter circulation.

After obtaining judicial authorisation to open the parcel, officers discovered 2,885g of vacuum-packed cannabis buds and 1,400g of hashish in tablet form. The total quantity seized was 4.285kg of drugs.

Controlled delivery operation in Ibiza

Following the discovery, investigators devised a court-supervised controlled delivery that allowed the parcel to continue its journey to Ibiza. The aim was to identify and arrest the people due to receive the drugs.

The operation was carried out in coordination with National Police officers in Ibiza, who arrested the suspected recipients when the package arrived at the designated delivery point on the island.

The investigation remains open as officers work to establish the full extent of the suspected drug supply route between mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands.

The National Police have not ruled out further action or additional arrests in connection with the case.
