Ten years of Formentera Jazz

The Formentera Jazz Festival will be held between 6 and 9 June 2024 with four days of free concerts

The organisers of the Formentera Jazz Festival (FJF) have just reached an agreement with the Conselleria de Cultura del Consell to hold the tenth edition of this live music event between the 6th and 9th of June 2024.

The director and founder of the festival, Maxwell Moya Wrigthwas very satisfied with the response of the Consell: “We have had talks and there has been a consensus to move forward and with better conditions to be able to celebrate this tenth anniversary”. For the sake of discretion, Moya did not want to reveal how much the budget for the 2024 edition will increase.

He pointed out that he has noticed “very good predisposition with the new government team, since I didn’t know how they would react, but has been very positive“referring to the Minister of Culture, Óscar Portas.

For the celebration of the tenth anniversary, the organizer has ensured that will continue to bet “on strong talent at the artistic levelwe have to see who is available for those dates”. In any case, his team is already working on all the graphic and digital supports for the new edition.

The festival will maintain its format of four days of free concertsalthough the organizers are considering “different ideas” that they prefer not to reveal for the moment.

Maxwell Moya has pointed out that this edition is special for him: “Reaching ten years is very nice, is a round number, in that time we have come to have about 4,000 or 5,000 people in each edition, about 1,500 per night, depending.”

He has also highlighted the fact that the concerts are free: “It’s a gift that residents and tourists enjoywho find themselves with a quality music offering in the plaza.”

The festival is also committed to local talent, “by people from the Pitiusas and the Balearic Islands”.

The insular councilor of Culture, Óscar Portaswanted to congratulate the organizers of the festival for this tenth anniversary because “it demonstrates the consolidation of this unique experience offered to Formentera and visitors” in a month like June, “which is a great opportunity for the festival organizers” helps to deseasonalize tourism”he stressed.

Portas has invited all citizens of Formentera to continue attending these concerts, which he described as “of extraordinary quality”, and has encouraged the organization of the event to “continue working in this way, with this work so well done” and has demonstrated after a decade.

More than a hundred artists have shared their talent at the Formentera Jazz Festival over the years. Among them are such relevant figures as Marco Mezquidathe virtuoso pianist from Menorca Jorge Pardooutstanding saxophonist and flutist recognized worldwide, who was presented for the first time in the Balearic Islands by the hand of the FJF with his electronic jazz project ‘ElectroDjinn’.

Also Alexey León Reyesinfluenced by Latin jazz, and Duquendeone of the most renowned flamenco singers of today, who performed in a memorable concert in this year’s edition.

The great Uruguayan violinist and improviser Federico Nathan has also participated, as well as Toninawith the power of her voice, bass and poetry. The Formentera-based musician Carlos Sarduyone of the Cuban trumpet players with the greatest international projection, is one of the FJF’s faithful members, and Yadira Ferrerwho combines her classical training with a strong Cuban sound influence. Not to be forgotten Miryam Latrececovering songs by great singer-songwriters, and Irene Atienzawith her fusion of flamenco, bolero and Latin American genres.
