The Govern warns: 18% of the unvaccinated cause 50% of COVID hospital admissions

The Minister of Health, Patricia Gomez, says the Covid situation in hospitals is stable, with 87 admissions and 25 in the ICU and calls for immunization

The Minister of Health of the Government, Patricia Gomez, today made her umpteenth call in Parliament for vaccination of the target population that has not yet been immunized. Gomez gave a warning in this regard : “18% of unvaccinated people account for 50% of hospital admissions for covid-19 in the Balearic Islands”. The Minister of Health, to questions from the PP, Ciudadanos and El Pi, has assured that the situation at the moment is stable with 87 people hospitalized of which 25 are in the ICU.

The different political groups have questioned Gomez to find out if the Balearic Islands are prepared to face the sixth wave of the pandemic. Gómez has assured that “we have demonstrated the strength of our health system, both primary care and hospital care, but I repeat that the best protection is the vaccine and applying measures to prevent contagion. Councillor Gomez again praised the work of health workers and recalled that they are available , as they did in full pandemic, to enable up to 1,000 beds for patients covid.

The represenative for El Pi, Lina Pons, asked why they want customers in bars and restaurants to have a covid certificate with the full vaccination schedule and not workers. In this sense, the Councillor for Health explained that the reason is because “customers remove the mask to consume and workers do not. Also, Gomez has indicated that the “vaccine protects against serious disease, but the problem is that we also have many people asymptomatic and it is necessary to apply restrictive measures in certain activities”.
