UD Ibiza-HC Ibiza makes its way from milestone to milestone at national level

Eugenio Tilves, coach of the island team, is "proud" before the historic debut of the Ibizan club in the Copa del Rey and says he expects "a dog-eat-dog match" on the court of Teucro Pontevedra in the first single elimination game of the tournament 'K.O'

The UD Ibiza-HC Ibiza continues to make strides in its growth at national level and continues to write new pages in its history as a benchmark within Balearic handball.

The squad coached by Eugenio Tilves, in his second season in the Men’s Silver Honor Division, continues to make its sporting path jumping from milestone to milestone. After making the ‘play-off’ to promote to the Liga Asobal, the highest division in Spanish handball, in their debut year in Silver division, the UD Ibiza-HC Ibiza returns to face a new historic challenge this Saturday, their debut in the Copa del Rey.

The Ibizan team will face the local team of Sociedad Deportiva Teucro tomorrow, from 8pm in the Municipal Pavilion Multiusos da Xunqueira, in Pontevedra, in the first knockout round of the Cup in its history.

“Now the league stops and this Saturday we have to focus on the historic debut of the club in the Copa del Rey, which is a source of pride for us, because, I think, there has been no other men’s team in the Balearics to play in this competition,” explains Eugenio Tilves, coach of the UD Ibiza-HC Ibiza, before indicating: “We have to play the first knockout round away, having finished eighth last year in the league. We have been seeded and will do our best against Teucro in Pontevedra”.

Complicated eliminatory

Regarding the match his team will play tomorrow against Teucro, Eugenio Tilves points out that it is a “complicated” round, since it will be played “in a single match”.

“We will face an intense and tough game because there is no second match,” says the coach of the Ibizan squad, while he also says of the opponent in this first round of the Copa del Rey: “Teucro is a team of our category and to get the pass to the next round of the competition we’re going to fight for it. On their home court they have had bad results having faced three defeats, so they will be very eager to take advantage of this Cup match to try to change their image”.
