The Punic goddess Tanit, also considered as the goddess of fertility and love is a mythical figure of the island of Ibiza. It is for that reason that it is quite likely that if you visit any of the souvenir stores in the Marina you will find her bust on magnets or in sculpted figures in ceramic.
“In the store we sell to the goddess Tanit, because several years ago we decided to to give her a figure of the goddess to some customers,” says Maria, the sales clerk of one of the souvenir stores that can be visited in the Marina.
The miracle of Tanit
So that the following year these same customers came back to visit the store with a surprise: “They told me that they could not have children. And that the woman had become pregnantby the goddess Tanit,” explains the sales clerk.
She also mentions that many couples give it to each other as a gift because it is “the goddess of love”, and in the end, who wouldn’t want to have the blessing of a Punic goddess and in this way their relationship will last forever, even if it was in miniature size or as a magnet to hang on the fridge.
However, the real bust of the goddess Tanit is located at the Monographic Museum and Punic Necropolis des Puig des Molins and occupies the center of the exhibition.
