Tourist arrested for kicking and smashing a 300,000 euro statue in Ibiza

The Guardia Civil has arrested a german tourist as alleged perpetrator of a crime of damage carried out in Platja d’en Bossa. The man kicked down a bronze statue located in the area, which belongs to the municipality of Sant Josep and valued at 305,000 euros.

It is one of the sculptures that belong to the luxury shopping center Ibiza Gallery in Platja d’en Bossa and is the work of Italian artist Mimmo Paladino.

Upon hearing news of what happened, the agents of the Main Post of the Guardia Civil in the area made the first steps and found some images in which the perpetrator could be seen kicking in different occasions the chest of the bronze statue until knocking it down and fracturing one of his arms, according to a statement from Comandancia.

“As it is a foreign tourist, with no other relationship with Spain beyond tourism and the suspicion that he could leave the national territory without accountability for the crime, the Civil Guard began efforts to locate and arrest him as soon as possible,” says the note

The man has been arrested as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of damage just as he was about to leave the hotel where he was staying.
