Already in August, the most important festivals are the Festes de la Terra de Ibiza and Sant Bartomeu de Sant Antoni, but there are others that are also essential in the Ibizan summer.
Festes de la Terra
The city of Ibiza celebrates in August the Festes de la Terra. The big day is August 5, coinciding with the festivity of of Our Lady of the Snows, patron saint of the island, in the cathedral of Ibiza, in Dalt Vila.
August 8 the patron saint of Ibiza town, Sant Ciriac, is also honored with a popular snack at Puig des Molins in Ibiza town and the fireworks display at midnight in the port of Ibiza town. The august 15 in the evening there is another unmissable event: the launching of fireworks from s’Illa de ses Rates, in ses Figueretes, the neighborhood of Vila that also celebrates its festivities.
The concerts of Pastora Solerwho is touring with her album ‘Libra’; Ressonadorswhich celebrates its fifteenth anniversary, and Léricathe revelation duo formed by Tony Mateo and Juan Carlos Arauzo, are the musical highlights of a program that offers special evenings for children, young and old this year.
Sant Llorenç festivities
August 10th is the celebration of the patronal feast of San Lorenzo in the parish of Sant Llorenç de Balàfia. The program starts on Friday, August 4 at 7 pm with a card championship at the Social Center of Sant Llorenç and continues until August 27 with the traditional festival at the Font de Balàfia organized by Sa Colla de Labritja.
On the big day, Thursday, August 10, there is mass, parade of typical carts, ‘ball pagès’ and tasting of traditional sweets, the concert of Aquesta me la sé! and music by Dj Cardona.
On Friday August 11 there is a big children’s party and on Saturday August 12 there is the Nit de Rock with Discoverband, Morning Drivers and Canallas del Guateke and the popular Flower Power Party.
Fiestas of Cala Llonga
Coinciding with the national holiday, August 15 is the feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, patron saint of Cala Llonga, a day in which music is the protagonist, the open-air projections and the parade of floats.
Sant Bartomeu Festivities
Another of the great popular summer festivals are those of Sant Bartomeu, which are celebrated in Sant Antoni and whose big day coincides with the 24th of August with fireworks at midnight in the bay of Portmany, one of the most beautiful fireworks displays on the island for how they are reflected in the sea.
This is the second religious festival celebrated annually in the town. The other, in January, is that of Sant Antoni.
Among all the activities, the Festival of Carthaginians and Romans stands out, an amusing historical recreation of the rivalry between both civilizations and includes a landing and a fraternal combat based on ripe tomatoes.
Concerts, sports competitions, traditional markets and other events complete the agenda.
Sant Agustí Festivities
August 28th takes place the patronal feast in Sant Agustí, a small parish that has always opted for daring musical proposals on this day. A day before the big day of the village, Saturday 27, Santa Monica is celebrated and, as is tradition in Sant Agustí, there will also be good music.
Feasts of Jesus
September 8 takes place the patronal feast of the parish of Jesus, coinciding with the grape harvest. The most outstanding events are the ‘fonyada de raïm’ and the ‘trascolada del vi del poble’. There is also music and the ‘ball pagès’.
Sant Mateu Festivities
Also at the end of summer takes place the patronal feast of Sant Mateu, with wine as the protagonist, on September 21 and a big party in which some of the best local wines are presented and tasted, accompanied by sobrasada. There is also the traditional solemn mass or the ‘ball pagès’.
Sant Miquel Festivities
Finally, now technically out of the summer, on September 29 the patronal feast of the parish of Sant Miquel is celebrated, with sports, music and traditions.
