Solidarity festival for the Argentinean woman who was run over and killed in Ibiza Sol Yapura

Rock bands and DJ's take part in Sunday's event to raise funds to help his family and repatriate his ashes

Friends of Sol Yapura, the young Argentinian woman who died last month when she was run over at a zebra crossing in Ibiza, have organised a solidarity festival this Sunday to pay funeral expenses and repatriate her ashes. Sol, 34, was well known on the island as a promoter of alternative art events, a skateboarder, tattoo artist and DJ. Her son Franco, 17, was about to travel to the island to join her, and the intention is that if he wishes, he can come to Ibiza when he comes of age.

His tragic death shocked Ibiza and was also widely reported by the Argentine media, especially in Rosario, her hometown. The driver who fatally hit her hit and ran away, although hours later she presented herself at the National Police station, she was driving without a license and without insurance.

The Sol tribute festival and fundraiser is called SolFest and will take place this Sunday in the Nui hall of the industrial estate of es Gorg de Vilaa few meters from where the accident took place. It will start at 6 pm and a good representation of local bands and dj’s of different styles will participate. The bands are The Metrallas, Badak, Konkordatti Punkinetti, Apotropaico, Pvssydònia and Seisdientes, and the dj’s Original Pirates, Ezekyel, Lost Angeles and Xhose_idf Antz.

The support

The ticket costs 15 euros, although there are two other ways to collaborate for people who want to do so and can not attend the festival, through a donation in the already opened BBVA account ES20 0182 4003 1302 0165 4678 or a Bizum to 34 653 863 378 with the concept ‘Amigos de Sol’.

As explained by one of his friends, Marta Yanini, guitarist of Pvssydònia, all the people related to Sol have turned to help in a process that “has been very long”. Her friends have taken care of the process for the cremation of the remains, the legal support, the bureaucratic procedures, especially the people of the bar Brut, where Sol worked, and now the organization of the concert.

“All the groups have said yes to us at the first time and the Nui hall has also facilitated everything and we are very grateful. We hope that on Sunday a lot of people will come and all the money raised will go to pay all the expenses and if there is any left over, to support his son. Sol loved rock, metal, hardcore and all of this will be done in his memory“, Yanini points out.

The Nui room is also very close to the place where a few days ago a graffiti in memory of Sol, by Mondobiq, Fossi and Shine, was unveiled on an electric tower next to the crosswalk, which includes a representation of his name with the inscriptions ‘D.E.P.’ and ‘a red star flying over Argentina’.

The organizers of the festival also want it to have a vindictive tone and demand that safety be improved at the point where she was run over, where more accidents have already occurred. They are calling for the installation of an elevated bridge since it is a point with a lot of traffic and where many pedestrians cross throughout the day.
