Sol Post a s’Oli Fest hosts Larry Campell and Teresa Williams

Guitarist Larry Campell and singer Teresa Williams will be the guest stars this Sunday at 9 p.m. at Sol Post a s’Oli Fest, held on the stage of the Caló de s’Oli auditorium.

“Larry Campbell is one of the most important session musicians there is in American roots music. As a guitarist, just the fact that he has played with Bob Dylan or Levon Helm among many others, says it all. It’s a must,” explains Soulman Sal, singer and guitarist of the band Uncle Sal and an expert in this musical genre, in a note sent by the City Council of Sant Josep.

The note adds that, despite having recorded and toured with some of the greatest musicians in the history of rock, the New Yorker Larry Campbell is not a famous artist for the general public. However, he is a legend for guitarists on the island specialized in American music who have discovered him.

The resume of his wife, Teresa Williams, who will be with him on stage at Caló de s’Oli along with bassist Brandon Morrison and percussionist John Guip, is not far behind. Williams grew up on a Tennessee farm surrounded by music and has been a backing singer for stars such as Mavis Staples, Emmylou Harris, Hot Tuna, Jackson Browne, Phil Lesh and Bob Weir. He married Campbell in 1986, after meeting on stage, and in the 2000s they already shared recitals, both being part of Levon Helm’s band.

After the musician’s death, Williams and Campbell decided to launch a project together, which culminated in 2015 with their debut album ‘Larry Campbell & Teresa Williams’which was followed by a big tour to later release two more: ‘Contraband Love’ (2017) and ‘Live at Levon’s’ (2023). His songs sail between American rock, folk, country and blues, point from the Consistory josepí.

“With Larry Campbell this Sunday we will have a historic concert, as much as when Bob Marley and Eric Clapton came to play at the old bullring in the 70s, or when Robert Plant and Jimmy Page performed at the Heartbreak Hotel in the 80s,” explains musician Miquel Prats, Botja, in the same note. Prats discovered the New York artist “by chance” while researching the fingerpicking technique, which is used to play solo and consists of interpreting rhythm and melody at the same time, breaking down chords.
