The skipper of the boat which collided with a Baleària ferry on August 17th at the mouth of the port in which R.G.S, a 46 year-old Spanish man, died on the spot, is being investigated by the Guardia Civil as the alleged culprit of the crime of manslaughter, according to a statement from the security force.
The man, who goes by the initials J.I.V. and is a former employee of Baleària, tested positive in the breathalyzer test taken by the two skippers involved in the accident.
After the officers took statements from several witnesses to the incident and analysed the ferry’s navigation instruments and the remains of the pleasure boat recovered by the Guardia Civil’s Special Underwater Activities Group (GEAS), it appears that “the boat did not have its navigation lights on and that, at the time of the collision, the skipper carried out an illegal manoeuvre”, as explained by officers in a press release.
