The ses Salines interpretive center on Ibiza reopens in July after 2 year closure

The church of Sant Francesc hosts again interpretive center with an agreement between the Bishopric and the Govern, after the previous contract expired in October 2020.

The ses Salines Natural Park interpretive center will again provide its informative activity this summer after almost two years of closure that, this time, could not be blamed on the covid pandemic. The interpretive center, located in the parish house of the church of Sant Francesc, were closed in October 2020 after the expiration of the agreement for its use, which involved not only the bishopric and the Balearic Govern, but also the Consell de Ibiza and the City Council of Sant Josep.

Finally, the bishopric, as owner of the property, and the regional Ministry of Environment, which has the authority in the Natural Park, have closed a new agreement that was published yesterday in the Official Bulletin of the Balearic Islands (BOIB). It now only remains to formalize the signing of the document by both parties, but a spokesman for the Conselleria confirmed that, from July 1, the interpretative center will begin to prepare to reopen in a few days.

The Regional Ministry of Environment has leased the parish house to the bishopric from July 1st until June 30th, 2027

According to the resolution published in the BOIB, the Regional Ministry of Environment has leased the parish house to the bishopric from July 1st until June 30th, 2027. The contract sets a monthly rent of 1,210 euros during the first two years, which will rise to 1,411 euros during the last three.

End of the agreement for the interpretive center

The interpretive center of the Natural Park of ses Salines opened its doors in May 2015. On that occasion, the bishopric ceded the property free of charge and the Balearic Govern, through the Institut Balear de la Natura (Ibanat), contributed 12,000 euros for management costs. For its part, the Consell, through the Foundation for Tourism Promotion, and the Sant Josep City Council contributed 8,000 and 4,000 euros respectively to collaborate in the project.

Five years later, the contract came to an end, although the four institutions involved assured that they were fully prepared to reactivate the interpretive center. After several months of closure, the Conselleria informed that the previous agreement could not be renewed because the Foundation for Tourism Promotion, the entity that channeled the financial contribution of the Consell, no longer existed.
