The family of Alba González, a 19-year-old woman from Ibiza who was involved in a traffic accident on 3 November while driving home from work in Sant Antoni, is trying to locate the driver of a white van, the only witness to the crash, in order to obtain his account and help clarify the circumstances of the incident.
The young woman’s mother, Mónica Valle, explains that the accident occurred at around 2.50 pm on Monday, 3 November, at the roundabout on the Ibiza–Sant Antoni road, just past Can Negre. According to her account, her daughter was driving towards Sant Antoni when another vehicle, driven by a woman, struck the right rear side of her car, causing her to lose control and crash into the guardrail. As a result of the impact, the car was written off, and her daughter was placed on sick leave for a month and required physiotherapy treatment.
The only witness stopped to help
Valle explains that immediately after the accident, the driver of a van who was passing through the same roundabout stopped to assist her daughter. When Guardia Civil officers arrived at the scene, they asked the van driver whether he had been involved in the accident. “When he said no, the officers asked him to leave the area without taking any statement from him”, she says. While stressing that the officers’ conduct was “impeccable, very attentive and polite”, Valle adds that the accident report she received a week ago supports the version given by the other driver, whom she insists was responsible for causing her daughter to lose control of the vehicle and crash.
According to the other driver, it was Valle’s daughter who was at fault, as the report states that “she entered the oncoming lane”. “That is not true. It is only her version, and we have another account that could corroborate what actually happened — the van driver’s”, Valle insists.
“The officers told us they could be wrong, but that we need further evidence to support the case and take it to court”, she explains. For this reason, the family is appealing for the driver of the white van to come forward. “It is our only option”, the mother reiterates.
