Roads of Ibiza: The Jesús crossing is in worse condition than expected and will remain closed for another two weeks due to roadworks

Ten years after construction first began, the Jesús crossing remains a real headache for the Consell de Eivissa. The repair works currently under way to improve this stretch of road—the fourth attempt to resolve its poor condition—will take longer than planned and will remain closed for another two weeks, as the road surface has been found to be in worse condition than expected. Meanwhile, the Consell will take advantage of these works to commission an expert assessment and claim the cost of the damage from the company responsible for the original works, Vías y Construcciones S.A.

The Consell had hoped to use the resurfacing works on the EI-100 road, which links Jesús and Santa Eulària through Ca na Putxa and the golf course, to finally leave the crossing in proper condition. However, this same access road had already required intervention on three occasions since February 2017. At that time, the institution’s governing team signed a report rejecting the works after several defects appeared in the road surface.

As a result, the Jesús crossing was closed to traffic on November 24. The company awarded the contract for this new phase, Islasfalto, had planned to complete the upgrade of this section within two weeks and then continue with the rest of the EI-100. The Consell estimated that this access to the village—now diverted via the Jesús bypass—would reopen on December 7. However, it was confirmed this Tuesday that, with the exception of local residents, it will remain closed to traffic for a further two weeks.
