Ibiza airport has met the expectations and has exceeded for the first time in its history the barrier of nine million passengers (counting arrivals and departures) in one year. 2024 has been, therefore, the busiest year for Ibiza’s air traffic, as confirmed by the data provided this Monday by AENA (Aeropuertos Españoles y Navegación Aérea).
The terminal has registered the best year in its history with 9.069,410 registered travelers, 1.5% more than in 2023. Right in the middle of the debate on the need to reduce the volume of tourists in the islands due to the overcrowding and its impact on the environment and natural resources which it causes at specific times, mainly during the high season months, from June to September.
The AENA data, detailed in a press release, indicate that of the total number of passengers that passed through es Codolar last year, 9,049,784 correspond to passengers coming from commercial flights. Of these, 3.814,421 traveled on domestic connectionsan increase of 1% compared to the previous year, and 5.235,363 flew to or from international airportsan increase of 1.9%.
By international markets, United Kingdom accounted for the most passengers, with 1,844,775 travelers. It was followed by Italywith 913,876; Germanywith 705,366; Netherlandswith 565,307, and Francewith 416,845. In terms of aircraft operations, Ibiza airport carried out in 2024 a total of 83.049 flights, adding takeoffs and landings, “a figure that implies a growth of 0.3% compared to 2023”.
The month of December
The Ibiza airport added 240,379 passengers in December2.1% more than in the same month of 2023. Also, handled 2,730 transactions during the last month of the yearthis represented an increase of 2.7% over December 2023.
AENA Group Airports
In the same note it is added that the airports of the AENA GroupaENA Group, “comprising the 46 airports and two heliports in Spain, London-Luton Airport and 17 airports in Brazil), closed 2024 with 369,444,029 passengers, 8.5% more than in 2023; managed 3,203,747 aircraft movements, 7.1% more than in 2023; and transported 1,421,640 tons of cargo, 18.1% more than last year”.
