Now fully recovered from the damage caused by the torrential rains that fell on Ibiza at the beginning of autumn, Estudi Tur Costa finally reopens to the public, almost on the doorstep of Christmas. It resumes its cultural activity today at 5.30 p.m. with the inauguration of a double exhibition that brings together, on the one hand, late works by Rafel Tur Costa and, on the other, a selection of jewels from the private collection of the Ibizan painter and his partner, art teacher and ceramist Anneliese Witt.
The curator of this dual programme, Helena López Pezzi, has overseen the selection of works, with the advice of cultural promoter Manolo Oya.
Marcos Tur Witt, co-director of the Jesús gallery along with López, explains that it was she who came up with the idea of bringing to light some of the pieces that Tur Costa and Witt had accumulated over decades “as a result of gifts, exchanges and purchases from creators of their generation”. This exhibition, displayed in Rafel Tur Costa’s former atelier, has been titled Amigos, since many of the works on show were created by artists with whom the Ibizan painter and the German ceramist shared a close relationship.
In total, the Es Taller space is exhibiting 55 pieces, including oils and acrylics on canvas, wood and paper; collages; photographs; serigraphs; lithographs; ink drawings; tempera works; ceramics; and sculptures.
