Six-year sentence and €5 million fine sought for hashish unloading in Sant Joan

The criminals were "surprised" in Cala Xuclar when they were transferring the bundles to four vehicles

The Public Prosecutor’s Office is asking for six and a half years in prison and a fine of five million euros for the driver of an off-road vehicle arrested on 23 February in Cala Xuclar, in the municipality of Sant Joan, when he and other unidentified persons were unloading several bales from a semi-rigid boat.

The accused and the rest of the alleged offenders were “caught” in the framework of an operation carried out by Customs Surveillance of the Tax Agency in this cove in the north of the island when they unloaded from the boat 25 compact packages (which turned out to contain 35 kilos of hashish each) to transfer them to four different vehicles, as described in the prosecutor’s indictment. One of these vehicles, a high-powered SUV, was being driven by the accused, who tried to flee to a “high speed.” with the car when he perceived the agents, without succeeding. The operation, initiated when the patrol boat ‘Colimbo IV’ was carrying out a nighttime coastal surveillance, resulted in the arrest of the driver and the intervention of a total of 875 kilos (803 kilos net) of hashish, as published last February by Diario de Ibiza.

For these facts, the Prosecutor’s Office now asks for a total of six years and six months in prison for the accused, with special disqualification for the exercise of the right to passive suffrage during the time of the sentence, and a fine of five million euros with subsidiary personal liability of 30 days for a alleged crime against public health.
