Tamara, patient from Ibiza: “I have been waiting a month and a half for Traumatology to remove a cactus spike that is piercing my finger”

“I’ve been waiting a month and a half for Traumatology to remove a cactus spike that is piercing my finger”, says Tamara, a resident of Ibiza Town, who still cannot believe that something “so simple” has become so complicated. She has now been on sick leave for a month and a half and already fears that the company where she works as a waitress —and where she is a permanent employee— will terminate her contract sooner than expected because she is unable to work. A serious blow to the family’s finances. “I don’t know if I’ll even be able to receive unemployment benefits”, she reflects.

Tamara’s nightmare began on 17 September, at home, while dealing with her neighbour’s cacti. “They’re huge and they grow into my property”, she explains. One of the spikes, quite a large one, snapped off the plant and, like an arrow, shot into the index finger of her right hand. “It went straight through my finger, from one side to the other”, she says.
