Participation in the Rúa de Ibiza carnival parade has plummeted compared to 2020, the last year that the event could be held before the covid burst onto the scene. This is clear from data provided yesterday by the Ayuntamiento de Ibiza, after the deadline for registration closed on February 20. To this edition, to be held next Sunday, February 27, from 11:30am, 589 people have signed up, who will parade through the main streets of Vila in troupes (there are twelve registered) or individually or in pairs (six entries in this category). These figures are a far cry from two years ago. Specifically, there are 853 fewer entries than in Rúa de Ibiza 2020, representing a drop of 59%, and the number of groups participating has fallen from 30 to 18.
The drop has been especially noticeable in the school groups category. This year in Vila there is only one school signed up (S’Olivera school), while in the last edition there were six. It is also striking that only one dance academy has signed up to take part in the parade, compared to five in 2020. The same is true of the other categories: there are three social groups (neighbourhood associations and non-profit organisations), four fewer than two years ago; and five in the general category, three fewer. The only section that has gone up compared to the last edition is the individual or couples, where there are six entries, two more than in 2020. To all these groups, we must add the two troupes from the C-19 centre, which, as they belong to the Ibiza Town Hall, will not compete in the prizes of the Rúa de Ibiza.
