Parking in Ibiza Town is already a complicated task. From today, it becomes even more so, as the Es Pou Sant 1 car park — located next to the Mestral school, on the site where the Christmas fair used to be held — has closed early this Thursday morning. The Ibiza Town Council had announced its closure in order to carry out maintenance and improvement works. Since the last rains, the ground in this free parking area, one of the largest in the city, had deteriorated significantly.
According to the Council, this is a temporary closure caused by the damage suffered after the passage of storms ‘Ex Gabrielle’ and ‘Alice’, which left large puddles covering much of the surface. Deep potholes have made vehicle circulation difficult. It is not yet known how long the car park, which accommodates hundreds of vehicles, will remain closed, as the Council has not provided an estimated completion date for the works.
This closure is a major inconvenience for those who usually park on the outskirts of the city. To make matters worse, the car park just opposite, next to the first ring road, has also been badly affected by rain and mud, leaving part of it unusable and further reducing the number of available parking spaces.
