A 18th century Ibicencan defense tower converted into premises of a sportswear brand, without any kind of license. It is the latest disrespect to the Ibizan heritage. The Local Police of Sant Josep has denounced on Wednesday “the development of a activity without the corresponding enabling title, carried out in the interior of la Torre d’en Rovira”, an eighteenth-century building that, although privately owned, is declared an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC) for its historical and heritage value, as highlighted in a publication in social networks.
In the enclosure had been installed a store with Nike brand products, whose images have been shared by several influencers on Instagram. Responsible for the company organizing this event, Lexa, clarify that “it is not a store” because “in reality nothing is sold”.

As they explain to Diario de Ibiza, he has a contract with the owner of this tower (who they say has assured them that he usually sets up private events without problems), to carry out this activity, and they add that it consisted of inviting twenty people to visit this installation, “one at a time so that no two people coincided in the tower”where they were given one of the brand’s garments.
The Police of Sant Josep, in addition to filing the corresponding complaint, has forced to remove the installed elements. This police force also informs in their social networks that they are going to to bring the facts to the attention of the competent authorities in the protection of the heritage of the Balearic Islands, in case additional responsibilities could be derived from their analysis. “This tower was once a key element for coastal surveillance and defense against pirate attacks. Its historical and cultural importance demands the utmost respect and protection,” asserts the Police in its social networks.
“We remind that these spaces cannot be used freely without the relevant permits. Taking care of our heritage is everyone’s responsibility,” he concludes.
