New and veteran talent unite at Jazz Point Ibiza 2024

The young multi-instrumentalist will not be the only local bet of this event, which will last four days and will feature eight concerts. Other regulars of the event will also participate, trumpeter, pianist, composer and producer Pere Navarro; and the Ciutat d’Eivissa Big Banddirected by Vicent Tur, which will offer a free concert this Sunday at Can Ventosa at 12 noon.

The fact that the talent of the Pitiusas Islands is taken into account is precisely one of the aspects that the Councilor of Culture of Ibiza highlighted about the festival, Carmen Domínguezat the presentation of the event, which took place today at Teatro Ibiza. Another strong point he alluded to is the fact that the line-up combines the experience of veteran jazz figures with the new blood provided by youngsters such as Coll, Navarro or rising stars like Rob Luft. This English jazz guitarist and composer, who “has been compared to legends such as Paco de Lucía”, will perform as a quintet on October 12 at 9 p.m. at Teatro Ibiza.

A first-class line-up

In addition to their names, the line-up includes renowned professionals from the international jazz scene who have been recruited by the New York-based agency J. Chriss & Co.promoter of the festival together with David Moss and Adam Lenoxfrom Ibiza Music Agency; y Digital Grafic Ibiza. Most of them will play with Andrés Coll and his drummer, Juan Carlos Maríin the jazz jam that will open the fifth edition on Thursday at 5 pm at WOM Radio Café, in Santa Eulària.

In that appointment, which will be repeated hours later, at 21.30 hours, in the restaurant Jara of the hotel The Standard, in Vila, there will be, among others, the Ibizan Pere Navarro; the acclaimed as “the superwoman of jazz”, Su Terry; and Charles Owens. The latter two are American saxophonists with more than 20 years of experience each on the international jazz scene.

Also performing in this double session in Santa Eulària and Vila will be two other Americans, the pianist and guitarist Rob Clearfieldwho was a founding member of the progressive rock band District 97; and his partner, the singer Bethany Clearfielda member of the Chicago Symphony Chorus. Also performing will be Mozambican Albino Mbiea guitarist, vocalist, composer, sound engineer, producer and professor at Berklee College School of Music; and the Panamanian Santi Debrianorenowned double bass player, guitarist, composer and educator. This musician and Mbie will play together on the 10th at the rooftop of The Standard at 7.30 pm. The African musician, who lives between Ibiza and New York, will also offer a quintet concert on Saturday, October 12, at 2.30 pm at Parco Ibiza, in Sant Antoni.

A day before, on Friday at 9 p.m., he will take the stage of Teatro Ibiza the sextet of Charles Owens and the artist Su Terry, who, with a quartet, will be responsible for dismissing the festival along with Andrés Coll, Santi Debriano and the Scottish drummer Corrie Dick. It will be on Sunday, October 13, from 7 pm at the hotel ME Ibiza, in Santa Eulària.

Masterclasses
