The City Council of Ibiza has introduced five educational speed cameras across the city. The initiative, according to the Consistory, aims to raise awareness among drivers about the dangers of speeding. These new devices are currently in the testing phase and have been installed at vuit d’Agost Avenue, Es Cubells Street, des Jondal Street, Sant Jordi Avenue, and Pere Matutes Noguera Avenue.
The radars display the real-time speed of vehicles on a digital panel but do not issue fines. This strategy is designed to inform driversbefore implementing penalties. The City Council hopes the radars will encourage motorists to reduce their speed in these areas.
This initiative is part of a broader plan by the Ibiza Town Hall to improve mobility and ensure safety for both drivers and pedestrians. Notably, the Municipal Traffic Ordinance, which took effect on January 17, introduced a 30 km/h speed limit on urban streets within the municipality. “The goal is to lower accident rates, provide smoother traffic flow, and reduce pollution in the city,” explained the Consistory.
