Ibiza is fortunate to have a large group of lovers of the night photography that show all the atmospheric or astronomical phenomena that happen while the rest of the island remains asleep. On this occasion, the photographer Leto Orduña has captured a new aurora borealis in the Pitiusian sky. Auroras occur when charged particles from the sun collide with gases in the earth’s atmosphere. The particles glow and emit vibrant colors, creating a stunning visual spectacle. “These auroras were barely perceptible to the naked eye, just a faint halo similar to traces of light pollution from some city,” Orduña recalls to Es Diari.
The exposure time of the camera is therefore prolonged, between three and eight seconds in this case. The image, which has the spectacular silhouette of the Cap Nonó in the backgroundwas taken between Thursday night (10:55 p.m.) and early Friday morning (after midnight) in Cap Negret, near the Hostal LaTorrein the municipality of Sant Antoni.
“Until after midnight they continued with less intensity and not so marked stripes,” adds Orduña.
Second episode
This is the second episode of aurora borealis photographed in Ibiza that this newspaper has reported. The first was the night of May 10, when the photographer specialized in nature, Santi Tur, captured this atmospheric phenomenon on the coast of Ibiza Santa Agnès, in front of ses Margalides, in the area popularly known as the Gates of Heaven.
