Work begins on the new Aldi in Sant Antoni

The Aldi company has obtained the license to develop the site and install the infrastructures

The works of the second Aldi supermarket on the island have begun with the works of land suitability and installation of infrastructures. The Sant Antoni City Council has already granted license to Aldi for these first works prior to the construction of the projected warehouse at the entrance of the town, in front of Lidl. At the moment, the municipal permit is still being processed, according to a spokeswoman for the City Council.

Aldi given the go ahead

As already announced by this newspaper, the Environmental Commission of the Balearic Islands reported in favor of the environmental assessment of the project earlier this year. The project consists of the construction of a warehouse of 3,500 square meters (1,378 square meters of usable area) with two different height volumes. The main space will be equivalent to a three-story building with a height of 12 meters, which will be joined by a second one-story building with a height of 3.7 meters, according to the project, which specifies that the building will have a height equivalent to three stories, despite the fact that urban planning regulations allow up to five stories. A parking lot with 88 parking spaces is planned.

The site is located in a potentially flood-prone area, but Water Resources reported in favor of the project with a series of conditions.
