The dj and music producer José María Castells, a key figure in the dance music of the eighties and nineties and one of the creators of the successful compilation saga Max Mix, passed away this Wednesday at the age of 59 due to a cancer he was diagnosed with in May. Castells was one of the three members of the Dream Team of the Hard Rock Ibiza party Children of the 80’s from where they lament, on their Instagram account, the death of the “companion and friend” who, since its inception in 2015, was “a fundamental piece” of this party, “contributing his talent and dedication week after week”.
His partners Toni Peret and Quique Tejada, with whom he was part of the Dream Team Megamix, made public his death in a statement in which they indicate that until the time of his illness he remained active, “contributing with his talent both in the production of his latest ‘megamixes’ and in his ability to transmit and make the dance floor vibrate”.
“Today is a sad day for the world of music,” they point out in the text and add that Castells has been an “key figure in the music industry, one of the creators of the successful Max Mix compilation saga, which revolutionized the music scene with its concept of seamless mixes”“.
He managed, together with his partners, to bring electronic music to “a mass audience“, at the same time that it was “source of inspirationn for a whole generation of djs and music lovers”.
“His DreamTeam mates deeply regret his loss and we join the pain of his wife and daughter, as well as that of the whole family,” they say in the statement. They also understand that the “DreamTeam will always be three“. “Wherever you are keep turning the track upside down,” they conclude.
