A 22-year-old motorcyclist died on Monday afternoon in a traffic accident on the first ring road, while his passenger, a 20-year-old man, was injured, as confirmed by Ibiza Town Council and the Health Department. The incident occurred as the motorcycle was travelling towards Ibiza Town in the late afternoon.
Although the Health Department reported that SAMU 061 received an alert for a collision between a van and the motorcycle carrying the two young men, the City Council indicated that initial evidence suggests the rider fell on his own, without the involvement of another vehicle.
SAMU 061 also explained that a health emergency technician who was nearby attempted to resuscitate the victim by performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation manoeuvres. However, as a result of the fall, the motorcyclist reportedly struck his head, causing fatal injuries.
The accident took place on Avinguda de Sant Joan, in the lane heading towards Vila, near the Eroski supermarket, at around 6 p.m., according to eyewitness accounts. Several officers from the Ibiza Local Police, along with SAMU 061 emergency teams and an ambulance from the Policlínica Nuestra Señora del Rosario, were dispatched to the scene. Despite the efforts of medical staff, the motorcyclist could not be saved, according to the City Council.
As reported by the Ibiza Local Police, the passenger was transferred to the Policlínica Nuestra Señora del Rosario with serious injuries.
