Ibiza’s bars and restaurants call for return to usual opening hours

Hotel and catering industry representatives expressed modest pleasure with the extending of the closing at 2:00 a.m.

Representatives of Ibiza’s hotel and catering sector met with moderate satisfaction the relaxation of covid prevention measures approved yesterday by the Balearic Govern, enabling them to operate one hour longer and extend their opening hours to 2am. However, they stress that their establishments have not been sources of contagion at any time and are disappointed that there are still restrictions on their activity, believing it is time to go back to their usual schedules, especially to make the most of the last weeks of the tourist season.

For Verónica Juan, the president of Petita i Mitjana Empresa d’Eivissa i Formentera (Pimeef-Restauració) bars and restaurants association, the extension of the sector’s night-time activity “is welcome, but it would have been better to go back to the old opening hours”. “We would have liked to see this come into force earlier so we could have taken advantage of the summer,” she added.

Obviously, it’s not a normal season, but it is going much better than last year

In addition, Juan noted that the solution to the current health situation “is not to be found in these restrictions of one hour more or less or the number of diners per table”. However, she also says that the summer is delivering excellent results given the situation that existed months ago. “Obviously, it’s not a normal season, but it is going much better than last year,” said the Pimeef representative.
