A 33-year-old man from Ibiza faces a possible eight-year prison sentence for the alleged rape of a woman during a house party in the summer of 2021.
That is the sentence requested by the prosecution ahead of the trial scheduled for Wednesday the 12th at 9:45 a.m. in the First Section of the Provincial Court of Palma. The defendant, who spent two days in custody following his arrest, is known on the island for having played football for several local teams.
According to the indictment, the events took place on 21 August 2021, when the accused — who has no prior criminal record — and the victim, along with others, were at a birthday party where “large amounts of alcohol” were consumed. The victim became unwell due to alcohol intake and a friend accompanied her to a bedroom, where she lay down on a bed.
The prosecution alleges that the defendant then raped her, causing injuries that required surgical treatment. The case will be heard next week.
