Patients in Ibiza wait 45 days longer for surgery than in the rest of the Balearic Islands

Public healthcare users in Ibiza continue, for yet another year, to face the longest waiting times in the Balearic Islands for both specialist appointments and surgical procedures. This is reflected in the waiting list data published by the Servei Balear de Salut, updated on January 3.

Specifically, patients at Hospital Can Misses wait an average of 102.6 days for a specialist consultation — almost a month longer than the average for the rest of the islands. This is the longest average delay among public hospitals in the autonomous community, a situation that is also mirrored in surgical waiting lists. In this case, the average waiting time stands at 165.12 days, more than five and a half months, which is around a month and a half longer than the Balearic average.

For specialist consultations, the hospital with the second-longest waiting times is Hospital Comarcal de Inca, with an average of 96 days. When it comes to surgery, the second-longest delays are recorded at Hospital Universitari Son Llàtzer, where patients wait an average of 125 days.

Patients with the shortest waiting times in both categories are those treated at Hospital de Formentera. However, these figures are not entirely representative, as many of its patients are referred to the waiting lists at Can Misses. Even so, the average waiting time at Hospital de Formentera is 43 days for specialist consultations and 55 days for surgery.

Excluding Formentera, the hospital with the shortest waiting time for specialist appointments is Son Espases, with an average of 58.8 days, while Hospital de Manacor records the lowest average delay for surgical procedures, at 96 days.
