In a press release, Ibiza Town Hall announced the decision not to charge bars, restaurants and shops for ordinary and extraordinary street occupation licences in Ibiza Town during 2021. This decision was communicated during a meeting this morning held by the Mayor of Ibiza, Rafa Ruiz, and the Councillor for Commerce, Dessiré Ruiz, with the city’s commercial and restaurant associations.

According to the Town Council, this decision has been taken to help alleviate the loss of income suffered by the commercial and hospitality sector during these months of the health crisis.

Business owners must still apply for a licence to occupy the public way in order to regulate authorizations and occupied space and thus obtain the licence, but will not be required to pay the fee. There will also be no charge for occupying the public thoroughfare at the craft market in Plaça del Parc and the markets on Passeig de ses Figueretes and the port of Ibiza.

During the meeting, it was also explained that rubbish collection fees would not be charged while the business has been closed due to the sanitary measures. Rafa Ruiz, wanted to stress that “these actions are aimed at helping the business sector of our city, small and medium entrepreneurs, who are in a very difficult situation and thus contribute to the release of the tax burden of paying these fees”.

For her part, the Councillor for Commerce, Dessiré Ruiz, together with the associations, will evaluate new proposals for commercial actions for consideration in the coming months. According to the Council, the associations’ leaders have also been invited to participate in the city’s Strategic Tourism Plan round-table meetings, where the actions and proposals to be implemented in the coming months are already being finalised.
