Ibiza hotel groups feature in Forbes’ top 2024 hoteliers list

The magazine analyses the top 15 hotel groups in Spain and highlights the magnitude of their impact on the tourism industry

Tourism is Ibiza’s economic engine. So it comes as no surprise that two companies from the island are on the list of the 15 hotel groups leading the sector in Spain in 2024, according to Forbes magazine.

The hotel sector plays a crucial role throughout the country, and especially on the island, as it is the cornerstone for millions of travelers who choose Spain as a destination every year.

Forbes analyzes the 15 leading hotel groups in Spain and highlights the magnitude of their impact on the tourism industry. These groups offer a wide range of experiences and services and during 2024 are expected to continue to stand out as key players.

OD Hotels

Among the hotel groups featured are OD Hotels. It currently has two hotels in Ibiza, one in Barcelona, one in Madrid (located in front of the Teatro Real in Plaza de Isabel II) and one in Seville.

Founded by its CEO, Marc Raholain 2000, belongs to the holding of companies in the tourism sector OD Group, which began its journey in the hospitality sector six years later with the purchase of the Ocean Drive Ibiza hotel and the Agroturismo Can Jaume by Ocean Drive.

In 2014 it opened Ocean Drive Port Portals in Mallorca (which it sold in 2022), followed by Ocean Drive Talamanca, which opened in 2016. A year later the group jumped to the capital city by opening the Ocean Drive Barcelona hotel.

Palladium Hotel Group

The other group with Ibizan DNA highlighted by the renowned publication is Palladium Hotel Group. The hotel chain was born at the end of the 60s in Ibiza by the hand of the businessman Abel Matutes John with the dream of bringing paradise to travelers and offering them incredible experiences, recalls Forbes. Abel Matutes Prats is its chairman and Jesรบs Sobrino is the group’s CEO.

It is the seventh largest Spanish hotel group. It is headquartered in Ibiza and has more than 50 hotels in Spain, Brazil, the United States, Jamaica, Mexico and the Dominican Republic. Its president is Abel Matutes Prats (son of the founder), while the CEO is Jesรบs Sobrino, both since 2020 and linked to the group for almost two decades.

Completing the list are AC Hoteles by Marriott, Barcelรณ Hotel Group, Eurostar, Grupotel Hotels & Resorts, Grupo Iberostar, Grupo Piรฑero, Grupo Santos, Lopesan Hotel Group, Meliรก Hotels International, NH Hotel Group, Paradores de Turismo de Espaรฑa, RIU Hotels & Resorts and THB Hotels.
