The Govern will inject around three million euros into the Consell de Ibiza and just over 400.000 euros to Formentera to compensate last year’s drop in revenue last year due to the covid pandemic and thus prevent the Autonomous Community from deducting its contribution to both institutions in the 2022 accounts, in accordance with the councils’ funding system.
To be more specific, last year’s lost of income from Covid has meant that the balance of the funds that the four councils received from the Comunitat is negative, i.e. with a balance of 2.4 million euros in the Govern’s favour. The councils’ funding system provides for the payment of an amount every year that is reviewed every two years, depending on their income and other parameters.
The president explained that “it would not be reasonable” to deduct this amount from the councils in the Autonomous Community’s next budget at a time of “such great need”. To prevent this, the Government will make an extraordinary contribution of 22 million to all the councils from the fund provided by the State to alleviate the effects of covid so that, with the increase in revenue (from the 2020 balance), the balance will not be negative.
