Ibiza City Council closes parks and gardens amid orange alert

The Ibiza Town Hall has informed in a statement that it has activated preventive measures in view of the orange alert for heavy rains. The General Directorate of Emergencies has declared orange alert for heavy rains on the island of Ibiza and, in this situation, and in order to ensure public safety, Ibiza Town Hall has decreed the temporary closure of some areas.

Thus, this Tuesday public parks and gardens will remain closed, as well as children’s play areas and outdoor sports facilities. “These measures will remain in force while the weather alert lasts,” explains the Consistory in a statement.

The City Council of Ibiza has recalled the importance of extreme caution and follow the instructions of the emergency services such as avoiding unnecessary travel, do not try to cross streams or flooded areas, remove vehicles from low areas or at risk of flooding, and follow at all times the instructions of 112 Balearic Islands and the Local Police.

The City Council of Ibiza has thanked the cooperation and understanding of citizens in this exceptional situation.

Up to 50 liters

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) remains on orange alert the Pitusas until seven o’clock Wednesday morning. Heavy rains are expected up to 50 liters per square meter per hour. Rainfall will also be accompanied by electrical apparatus without ruling out hail, according to the weather forecast for these days.

The Aemet has warned of the arrival of showers and thunderstorms in the Balearic Islands. These rains can be very heavy and even torrential with significant accumulated rainfall. “Floods and flash floods may occur,” he points out in his official X account.

The presence of high humidity at low levels along with thermal instability and dynamics, will lead to the formation of heavy showers and storms in the Balearic Islands, says the Aemet.
