Another Ibiza beach closed to bathing due to gasoline spill

The beach of Punta Pinet has closed to bathing after registering a gasoline spill. As reported by the City Council of Sant Josep, it was the bathers and neighbors of the area who alerted of a strong smell of gasoline on Monday afternoon.

After receiving the warning, the Consistory activated the lifeguard and posidonia monitoring boats to investigate and a stain was located in the bay, towards the open area in the direction of Sant Antoni. The spill could have come from a boat or from the service station the port, according to the City Council.

“It is a non-compacted spill that has fragmented with the movement of the sea. Tonight, the cleaning service has worked removing debris and affected posidonia.”the same sources point out.

The beach was closed to bathing as a precaution because the 112 recorded several warnings of bathers who reported itchy skin and eyes.

The area will not be reopened to bathing until it is confirmed that the situation is safe and the analyses support it. Lifeguards are scheduled to make a new inspection throughout this morning.
