Agents of the Local Police of Ibiza have arrested five people on the promenade of the city on suspicion of being members of a organized gang of cell phone thieves. During the operation, 23 high-end devices were recovered, cash and narcotic substances.
From the communication department of the City Council of Ibiza, reported on Tuesday that the arrest of these five people was carried out “in the early hours of Saturday to Sunday in the vicinity of Avenida 8 de Agosto.”. A patrol of the Local Police “observed some individuals inside a vehicle” in an attitude “elusive and suspicious”. The officers stopped next to the car and proceeded to identify them and conduct a “cursory frisk”during which “they detected two mobile devices hidden in a sash, the origin of which the suspects could not justify”.
“Upon inspection of the vehicle, they found concealed and wrapped with aluminum foil two blocks with eight mobile terminals each and two more next to the gearshift”. Along with these terminals, “pins for extracting SIM cards, cash in both euros and dollars, more telephones, small flashlights and rolls of aluminum foil” were found.
When these devices were seized, the Consistory added that the agents “they noticed that some of them were receiving callsthe owner of one of the devices, of French origin, was identified, and she told the caller that her phone had been stolen from a well-known discotheque in another municipality on the island that same night” from Saturday to Sunday.
As a result of all this, the agents decided to arrest these five people, who were also caught in possession of narcotic substances, although it is not indicated which ones or in what quantity. The detainees were taken to the National Police to be handed over to the corresponding judge.
