For the second consecutive day, the thermometers have broken records in Ibiza. Despite being in the middle of December and at the gates of the arrival of winter, the island is recording unusual temperatures for these dates, which are still far from cold, according to the Balearic delegation of the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).
Without going any further, on December 11 and 12 the temperature record was broken in Sant Joan, which reached 24.2 and 26.8 degrees, respectively. The highest temperature previously recorded in the municipality was 22.9 degrees in 1992, according to Aemet. These are temperatures more typical of early June or late September.
Yellow Alert
The Pitiusas will be from Thursday on yellow alert for strong gusts of wind and bad sea. The Aemet has activated the yellow risk for north wind gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour from 6 to 12 hours, as well as coastal phenomena by northwest wind of 50 to 60 kilometers per hour and waves up to three meters high.
Cold for the weekend
Throughout the week thermometers are expected to start their descent and will be around values more common for this time of the year. Tomorrow the highs will settle down around 19 degrees in Ibizathus initiating a decline that will continue for the next few days.
The weekend will see the most notable decreases, with temperatures reaching saturday and Sunday highs will be around 17 and 18 degrees in Ibiza.
The entry of a large mass of cold air through the northern peninsular, which will reach the Mediterranean and Balearic areas at the end, will cause that may cause heavy rains in Mallorca and, according to the meteorologist Mario Picazo, it could derive in some intense snowfall.
