A family from Ibiza spots a whale in Formentera

A whale surprised a family from Santa Eulària while sailing from there to Formentera, at the height of es Freus, in s’Espardell. It is “probably a fin whale”, according to IB3 yesterday. It is the second largest animal on the planet, only surpassed by the blue whale.

In the images, in which you can hear the surprise of the family when encountering this cetacean, you can also see how the animal spits water through the blowhole in several of its very brief trips to the surface, during which you can barely see the back.

Although such sightings are not common in the waters of the Pitiusas, the most common is to see dolphins, it is not the first time they are recorded. Last July, a family of whales surprised several boats in the waters of Ibiza .
