A virulent fire has caused alarm early this morning in one of the main leisure areas of the city Ibiza . The fire, which started after two o’clock in the morning, has completely destroyed three premises in Platja d’en Bossa: the restaurants Sa Sal and S’Espardell and an establishment that intended to open its doors this week. Three staircases with twenty apartments each, that is, 60 apartments, had to be evacuated, according to the fire department sergeant, José Antonio López, who was present in the area this morning. The fire was considered extinguished at 9.15 am.
The fire forced the eviction of 30 families from the houses located in the upper part of the building, although this morning they have been able to return to their homes, according to the mayor of Sant Josep, Vicent Roig, who has moved to the scene of the event. The houses have not burned inside, as he explained and only one seems to be somewhat more affected, but only, as far as it has been verified at first, by soot. The flames and heat have also affected the outdoor area of a nearby hotel, where some palm trees and umbrellas have been burned.
The big flames surprised the many people who were enjoying the evening in the area, one of the main nightlife areas on the island of Ibiza. Many of them recorded the event with their cell phones and the images have been shared on social networks and Whatsapp groups.
At 8.30 a.m. this Tuesday firefighters were still working in the area, although the flames were already out. Afterwards, the work focused on cooling, until the fire was considered extinguished at 9.15 am.
A total of 18 firefighters in six trucks and two ambulances of 061, which were displaced to the scene attended on site five residents affected by smoke inhalation and a firefighter who suffered minor burns. The Local Police of Sant Josep and the Guardia Civil, who are investigating the causes and origin of the fire, have also intervened.

On the origin of the flames, the first sensations of the firefighters, from the videos they have seen, is that they could have started on the terrace of one of the restaurants located on the first floor of the building. “It is possible that it has started on one of the outdoor terraces of one of the premises, we still do not know which premises or which terrace, we have to do an investigation and look at the videos and photos that have arrived,” said Lopez, who explained that at the time they received the notice of the fire in Platja d’en Bossa came from another performance in the municipality of Ibiza.
