The DANA tiptoes past Ibiza

The DANA passed through Ibiza yesterday almost tiptoe, leaving hardly any incidents beyond some heavy rainfall, especially in the capital. And is that Vila has been the area with more rain on the island during this climatic phenomenon, since in the city fell 53 liters per square meter in 24 hours. Closely followed by Sant Joan, with 49 liters, while at the airport rainfall amounted to 36 liters and much less in Formentera, specifically 18 liters.

In the chapter of incidents, public agencies reported no events and small incidents on the roads without major consequences. Specifically, the Consell reported landslides on two roads that run, in part, through the municipality of Santa Eulària. The sections that suffered these landslides are on the EI-200, (the section of the second belt that connects with the road to Santa Eulària), and also on the EI-321, in Sant Carles.

The Consell informed early in the morning of these landslides through its social networks.

The main actions on the roads occurred on Tuesday at noon and later at night and in the early hours of Wednesday, when the island was on orange alert for the arrival of a DANA. Operators of the Xarxa Viària were removing stones and earth from the roads until three o’clock in the morning. The work continued in the morning to remove the landslides as a result of the rains of the night and early Wednesday morning.

The conseller of the Department of Road Infrastructure, Mariano Juan, valued the device deployed during the orange alert decreed in the islands, although it did not have to respond to serious incidents. “It has been up to the task, prepared and giving quick and safe response to ensure the mobility of all Ibizans and reduce the risks arising from adverse weather,” said the minister.

The Aemet deactivated yesterday the orange alert in the Pitiusas, where at the end, the emergency services attended a total of nine incidents, as detailed yesterday afternoon by the Balearic Government. Among them highlighted several floods and pipe jams in the area of Platja d’en Bossa “but without major complications”.
