The cab stand at the new discotheque [UNVRS] located in Sant Rafel, in the municipality of Sant Antoni, has been set up on private land and is not official, so the decree does not apply to it approved by the previous progressive Govern, being also conseller responsible for this issue the Ibizan socialist Josep Marí Ribas. End of the controversy.
The insular director of Transport, Roberto Algaba, explains that the loading order regulates the activity in a “very clear” way: “Where there is official stop, and if there are customers waiting there is no preference” of the cabs of the municipality where the rank is located. “It’s the same thing that happens at the airport,” he points out. “The moment there are no people waiting at the rank, all the cabs from the rest of the municipalities have to leave” the stop.
In addition, within a radius of one hundred meters from an official stop, cab drivers are not allowed to load or unload customers. “Because it is understood that if there is a stop, customers must take the cab at the stop.” All this provided that the stop is official, which is also not the case.
The traditional trap
what happened, then? On the assumption that the stop of the [UNVRS] is not an officiall, that it is located on private land and that, therefore, the decree approved by the Govern does not apply to it, the traditional trap is applied. “Here comes the ‘all my life it has been done that I talk to the person in charge of the door of the discotheque and he gives me preference.’. If a municipality has not placed an official stop on a public road, with its sign and painted on the ground, there is no preference. As a cab arrives, it can load.
“[UNVRS] is on private land.”insists Algaba, “so that no employee can go to a cab driver from another municipality and tell him that those from Sant Antoni have preferencethere are no more stories. The moment this stop becomes official, everything would change. “Then, there would be preference for those from Sant Antoni.”
In an unofficial one, as is the case, some cab driver may claim that this collusion with the doors of a discotheque is done in other premises. “Well, too bad, because it is not an official stop.” And Algaba warns: “We will not sanction the security one who is giving preference, I will sanction the cab driver who is charging wrong; the one from the municipality because he does not have priority and cannot jump over the rest of the cabs.”.
