The summer season is about to begin and the Consell de Formentera is finalising preparations to the island to ensure that visitors enjoy their stay. Thus, the operators of the area of Environment have begun to install the beacons that delimit the bathing areas on the beaches to prevent any interaction with boats that will soon dot the coast.
The work, as reported by the island administration in a press release, began last Wednesday and in this first phase they have focused on the beaches of ses Illetes, es Cavall d’En Borràs and Cala Saonawhich are the areas with the highest presence of boats. In the coming days will continue with the beaconing of the beaches of Llevant, es Pujols, es Caló de Sant Agustí and the stretch of coast between es Caló des Mort and es Arenals.
The project has a total budget of 36.500 euros plus VAT, an amount that includes the installation of the floating beacons, eight revisions during the season and the dismantling at the end of the summer, at the end of October.
The Councilor for the Environment, Verónica Castelló, recalls in the press release that the main use of the beaches is for bathing and that the objective of this initiative is “ensure the safety of bathersprotect the seabed and enhance the value of the most emblematic corners of the island”.
In addition, with this beaconing, which also marks the navigation channels, it is intended to “take care of the posidonia meadows, where many species live, as well as to create safe areas to practice open water swimming”.
