The ‘Cinema a la fresca’ returns to Formentera with 32 films until September

All films are in the original version and with subtitles in Spanish.

For 17 years now, thanks to a temporary resident of French origin, Veronique Landy, the ‘Cinema a la fresca’ has been organised on Formentera with the support of the Culture Department of the Consell Insular. This year MC [Miquel Costa] Serveis Culturals is joining the artistic direction.

Together with Landy they have programmed a film series for residents and tourists to enjoy the summer nights and the screening of classics and contemporaries of national and international cinema free of charge.

From June 27 to September 8a total of 32 films of various nationalities, shot between the 1920s and the present day, will be screened. All screenings are in original version and with Spanish subtitles.

On Tuesdays the appointment is at the Jardí de ses Eresin Sant Francesc, on Thursdays at the church square of Sant Ferran and on Fridays in the courtyard of the Casa del Poble de la Mola.

The programming offers a diverse selection of different films and genres. From thrilling thrillers to action and adventure to heartwarming dramas and refreshing comedies, the festival promises a diverse and captivating lineup for all moviegoers to enjoy.

The series opens on tuesday, June 27 in Sant Francesc, with ‘Brokeback Mountain/In the wilderness’as part of the program of activities on the occasion of the International LGTBIQA Pride Day. A film by director Ang Lee that tells the story of Ennis and Jack, who meet while standing in line to be hired by a cattle rancher.

On Thursday, June 29, at Sant Ferranthe film ‘The other side of hope’ will be screened, which is part of the program of the World Refugee Day. The film, directed by Aki Kaurismaki, tells the story of a young man from Syria, whose application for asylum is rejected, but he decides to stay anyway.

On Tuesday, July 4 in Sant Francesc will be screened ‘Alcarràs’by Carla Simón, one of the most awarded films in Spain and Europe last year (Berlin Golden Bear for Best Film) and with eleven nominations for the Goya Awards in 2022.
