National Police officers in Ibiza have arrested a man (of Moroccan origin and 52 years of age) for making charges with a credit card stolen by mistake in four different establishments in less than two hours. The detainee has been handed over to the Ibiza Magistrate’s Court on duty.
The police action began on Monday morning when the agents, who were patrolling a central neighborhood of Ibiza town, were alerted by the victim, a woman, who told them that she had just received several unauthorized charges with her credit card from several establishments in the center of Vila.
“The woman realized that her wallet was missing the moment she received the message on her cell phone from her bank, informing her that several charges had been made at various establishments. Following the agents’ investigative work, they were able to fully identify the individual, a regular acquaintance of the Police due to his relationship with this type of crime“, reported from the body in a statement.
For this reason, the agents carried out a search device, observed how the suspect fled into a parking lot and managed to intercept him. At that moment, the alleged fraudster threw the credit card on the ground and the agents were able to verify that the data fully coincided with those of the complainant.
“Once the suspect was identified and frisked, it was possible to verify that the objects he was carrying in his bags matched the fraudulent charges that had been made on the victim’s card, and proceeded at the same moment to the arrest of the individual as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of fraud and theft“, adds the statement.
Among the items recovered were a credit card of the victim, cash and different food products.
