One of Europe’s most wanted fugitives and France’s public enemy number 1 was arrested last Saturday in Romania. Mohamed Amra, nicknamed ‘The Fly’, staged his jailbreak in May 2024 during a transfer, which led to a bloodbath in northwest France. Two prison officers were killed and three others injured during the violent attack involving cronies of ‘The Fly’. And he disappeared.
But the French police were not about to give up and, with the help of Interpol, an international search and arrest warrant was issued. It is still not known where Mohamed Amra has been hiding for the past nine months. But all indications are that he spent some time in Ibiza last summer.
Agents went to the island and spent time in Ibiza last summer investigating a villa where the collaborators of the escape and Mohamed Amra himself might be, but it seems that the police arrived too late.
The arrest in Romania
Romanian Interior Minister Catalin Predoiu explained that ‘The Fly’ was in Bucharest for “cosmetic surgery” at the time of his arrest.
According to Le Parisien, at the time of the arrest, Mohamed Amra was on his way to the barbershopbut did not have time to walk through the door. However, he had already been able to dye his hair bright red, something that did not prevent his identification through facial recognition and fingerprint comparison.
Arrested on Saturday in Bucharest, Mohamed Amra was brought before a Romanian judge on Sunday. A hearing during which the fugitive indicated, through his lawyer, Maria Marcu, that “he does not recognize the acts committed, but wishes to respect the decision of the French authorities who want to judge him”. He then accepted his surrender to the French authorities. An operation to be carried out within 30 days.
