“Carnavaaaaaaal… Carnavaaaaaaal… Carnival i love you”… Prepare your masks and your most outlandish styles, Ibiza is in Carnival. The costumes and the rúas are the real protagonists of this weekend of masquerade, which lasts until next Wednesday, when the island will say goodbye to the joy of Carnestoltes and receive the sad Lent. The costume parades began this Wednesday with the school groups showing their creations in the streets around their schools and will continue during the next few days: Sant Jordi (Friday at 4.30 pm), Vila (Saturday at 5 pm), Formentera (Sunday, 12 noon), Sant Miquel (Sunday, 12 noon), Sant Antoni and Santa Eulària (both on Tuesday at 5 pm).
The Ibiza Town Hall has prepared a big party for Carnival Saturday. The rúa will be held in the afternoon, but the bodies will be able to warm up engines and get sandungueros from very early, as at half past ten in the morning will begin the ‘Carnivals of the World’ festival at the Vara de Rey promenade. And, after the rúa, let no one believe that we will have to go home. The party will continue with the awards ceremony for the best groups and costumes, a popular barbecue and lots of music. In total, more than 13 hours of partying.
As every year, tortillas and mariol-los of the Dijous Llarder will give the starting signal to the festivitieswhat are they going to dress up as?
Those who feel more Balearic will be able to join in the celebration of the Day of the Balearic Islandswhich returns to the Hippodrome de Sant Rafel after last year, which took the Paseo de Vara de Rey. Carnival rules. And the promenade is Carnestolendas territory. At the racecourse there will be, in addition to a lot of trotting, crafts and games. The Museu Arqueològic is a little early and has organized its events for the Diada on Thursday and Friday. For the guided tours it is important to be among the first to avoid being left without a place, while for the workshops and gymkhanas it is necessary to register.
In the more cultural section, there are options for lovers of the balletof music and art. This Friday will be inaugurated at the Club Diario the exhibition of Zulema Bagurwho travels around the Mediterranean with her paintings.
