The best areas in Ibiza to see the historic solar eclipse

On 12 August 2026, Ibiza will experience its first total solar eclipse since 1905, with the Sun fully obscured for around 80–90 seconds, depending on location. The island lies within the band of totality, and best visibility requires a clear western horizon. Observation must be done with certified eclipse glasses (ISO 12312-2) or projection methods to avoid eye damage. Authorities recommend advance planning due to expected high tourist numbers, with guidance from the Government and National Geographic Institute (IGN). Prime viewing points include the Cala d’Hort viewpoint and other elevated western sites, while the Ibiza Observatory and the Astronomical Association of Ibiza will host events with safe viewing conditions. Activities planned around the phenomenon include guided excursions, viewing packages and sunset dinners at key vantage points.
