From belonging to one of the richest families in the world to drug dealing in Ibiza

Tomorrow Thursday starts the trial of a very mediatic drug trafficking case. In July 2021, he was arrested at Ibiza airport Salman Behbehani, a well-known professional poker player belonging to one of the richest families in the world according to Forbes magazine.

Salman arrived on the island in a private jet from Las Vegas accompanied by 30 other people. But in a routine inspection of his luggage a large quantity of drugs was discovered 83 grams of cocaine, 348 grams of ketamine, 52 grams of MDMA and 543 grams of cannabis, substances whose market value amounted to 26,514 euros.

In October last year he should have been tried in the Provincial Court of Palma for drug trafficking, but reasons related to the health of the accused forced to postpone it. The new proposed date is that the hearing will be held tomorrow, February 27 and 28. The prosecution is asking for Behbehani a sentence of nine years in prison and a fine of 53,000 euros.

The court proceedings have attracted a great deal of media attention due to its high profile. Salman Behbehani is a well-known figure in the poker community. He has won nearly $3 million in live tournaments and sis family is one of the wealthiest in Kuwait, although he is a U.S. national, ranking 19th on the Forbes list of the top 100 Arab family-owned businesses in the Middle East.
