The association of djs of Ibiza criticizes not being able to play in ses Salines

The dipef association (of DJs and Producers of Ibiza and Formentera) denounces that space is being taken away from this musical aspect on the island and criticizes that it does not receive the recognition and institutional support it deserves, as expressed through a statement. “The recent cases of sealing of sound equipment, withdrawal of licenses and prohibition of the performance of djs in some establishments in Ibiza have led Dipef to raise their voice in defense not only of the collective of djs, but also of the protection of music as intangible cultural heritage of the island”. In this sense, they refer to what happened with the chiringuito Sa Trinxa, located on the beach of the Natural Park of ses Salines: “The performance of djs has been banned, a direct consequence of the regulation on natural parks, which depends on the autonomous communities. How can it be that, after half a century of history, the presence of a dj is prohibited in ses Salines? The chef cooks. The waiter serves. The dj selects the music”.

The balearic Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Fishing and Natural Environment points out, in response to this newspaper, that “no disciplinary proceedings have been opened nor has anything been communicated, nor have the regulations been changed”, and reminds us: “The Park’s regulations, which date from 2005, state that parties cannot be held nor can there be loud music”. In this sense, by way of example, the Master Plan of this Natural Park prohibitsarticle 102, “the celebration of parties, concerts and shows of any kind, whether or not they are of a multitudinous nature, on beaches and in the natural environment in the open air or in establishments located on rural land or in the public domain”.

This Thursday Diario de Ibiza phoned Sa Trinxa, but declined to make assessments. Dipef, meanwhile, points “to the town halls and the Consell for an unequal, unclear and often arbitrary regulation”. “Five city councils, five different ordinances. All this in what is probably the place with more musical activity per square meter in the world,” regrets the association, which adds: “Regulation, yes. Absolutely necessary. We have been calling for it for years. But a regulation that is fair for everyone: one that respects rest, takes care of the environment, and allows spaces of silence to coexist with spaces with music. In which the cultural and musical heritage of this island is valued (…) We are not talking about partying or excesses, but about music”.
