The Civil Guard of the Balearic Islands and Customs Surveillance Officers of the Tax Agency in Ibiza have arrested a person on suspicion of drug trafficking. The first of the two security bodies details in a statement that they detected ten kilograms of cocaine among the cargo of a truck in the port of Ibiza during a routine control.
The device, coordinated by the Risk Analysis Unit (UAR) on June 28, inspected several automobiles and heavy goods vehicles. The officers observed a high degree of nervousness in one driver during the checks, which raised suspicions about the possible existence of illicit objects or substances. After identifying him as a male of Spanish nationality, he showed inconsistencies in his responses to the requests of those responsible for the operation.
Cocaine in car parts
The officers searched the cargo box of the truck, where they found legal merchandise consisting of automobile spare parts. Among these items, they located a sports bag without the regulatory sealsthis aspect is routinely checked in tax matters by the Risk Analysis Unit.
In addition, the Guardia Civil dog detected a strong chemical odor from the bag, which contained ten brick-shaped packages and tested positive for cocaine after being tested with drug detection reagent.
Upon such a finding, the agents inspected the rest of the vehicle in detail and, immediately thereafter, stopped the driver as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against public health. Then, they reported the facts to the duty court of Ibiza and the detainee was placed at the disposal of the court.
