The band Café Dakar will give a concert this Saturday, August 24, at 8:00 p.mon the outdoor stage of the Auditori Caló de s’Oli de Cala de Bou in the second edition of the Sol Post a s’Oli Fest, which takes place every Saturday until September 7th in es Caló de s’Oli at the same time. It will be the eighth concert of this event and it will feature Ibizan and Cuban music, with its African roots, together with Caribbean rhythms, Mediterranean melodies and tribal percussion.

Café Dakar is a project created by the young Ibicencan vibraphonist Andrés Coll and the prestigious Cuban trumpet player Carlos Sarduy. The two musicians are joined by singer and percussionist Tama Ndiaye Alou, a regular collaborator of Coll. On rhythm base will be Aarón Puente, the titular bassist of Teatro Ibiza, and Alain Ladrón de Guevara on drums, both Cubans.

Andrés Coll is considered as “one of the virtuoso musicians” of Spain in the marimba. Over the years, he has established himself in primal and contemporary music, modern jazz and free improvisation. In 2022 he created Andres Coll Odyssey, joined by drummer Ramon Lopez, gnawa musician Majid Bekkas on the guembri and Polish violinist Mateusz Smocynski. In 2024 he released his first album, ‘Sunbird’, recorded live from a festival in Poland.

Carlos Sarduy is also a pianist and composer. He arrived in 2008 on the European music scene becoming “a recognized and valued musician” in the jazz, flamenco, popular and modern music scene. He has recorded more than 50 albums and has collaborated with “great artists” such as Chucho Valdés, Bebo Valdés, Esperanza Spalding, Steve Coleman, David Murray and Concha Buika, among others.

Sol Post at s’Oli Fest

The musical cycle of Sol Post a s’Oli Fest includes several recitals organized by the City Council of Sant Josep and all of them go accompanied by food trucks and the attraction of the sunset in this privileged spot in the bay of Portmany. Groups such as La Cuarta Cuerda, Awakate, Yacaré, Hostal Pascual, Bohemios Autorizaos, surprise artist Marc Seguí and The Groovy Brothers have already performed there. And there are still the concerts of Ichos, on August 31, and “one of the strongest dishes” of the edition, El Canijo de Jerez, on September 7, who will close the Sol Post.

The coordinator of Culture, Bartomeu Tur, said in a press release: “From the Department of Culture we bet, as always, for the variety, so we present a lineup with many styles, groups from both here and abroad, and strong dishes with which we want to enrich and provide relevance and identity to this festival”.
